Bovendien was het koud, zo&#8217;n 15 graden. \u00a0Het zicht op het IJsselmeer was ronduit slecht, dus het werd een leesdagje in de boot. Ik wist dat dat staat voor iets minder dan twee meter, maar was benieuwd waar dit vandaan kwam. Het blijkt dat dat de afstand is tussen de twee uitgestrekte handen van een &#8220;niet al te kleine volwassen man&#8221;. En dat stamt dan uit de tijd dat met een dieptelood de diepte gemeten werd. De lengte van de loodlijn werd na ophalen van het lood\u00a0tussen de uitgestrekte armen afmeten en zo werd het aantal vadems bepaald. Tegenwoordig is de vadem gelijk aan 6 voet = 1,83 meter. Alleen het blik, dat verkocht werd als &#8220;Goulash&#8221; viel enigszins tegen: welgeteld acht kleiner dan dobbelsteentjes vlees bevatte het geheel.
