We gingen vlot door de bruggen van Workum. Er stond nagenoeg geen wind, en die er stond was recht van achteren. Op de lange Vliet deed een platbodem heldhaftige pogingen om te zeilen, maar harder dan 0,5 knoop ging het niet. De zeilen hingen slap van de gaffel naar beneden en Duitse middelbare mannen gebruikten het gewicht van hun bierbuiken om de giek dwarsscheeps te houden. De schipperse vond het allemaal best. Het schip nam daarmee meer dan de halve breedte van het vaarwater in beslag, dus we moesten er even achter blijven hangen vanwege tegenliggers. Vandaar dat ik het weet van die 0,5 knoop.<\/p>\n<p>Op de Fluessen nam de wind tijdelijk iets toe tot kracht 3 en was het prima zeilen tot aan Galamadammen. Met alleen op hun kluiver en met windkracht 2-3 van achteren hadden ze nog een tijdje te gaan tot Langweer.
